We Have One More Chance!

Dear CMA Friends and Families,

It looks like we have one more shot to have our government funding for 2013-2014 restored.  Even though the latest budget agreement has us withstanding a 4.5% cut, on Wednesday and Thursday this week an amendment will be proposed by the Minority parties in both the Senate and the Assembly to fully restore the cut against our services.  We need you to urge members of the majority in each house (democrats in the Assembly and republicans in the Senate to speak up and vote For the amendment).

PLEASE, contact your Democratic Assembly members and Republican Senators and share the message below:

When you consider the final budget on Wednesday or Thursday, an amendment to fully restore the 6% cut against services will be offered during the budget debate. As you know this cut is catastrophic to the people with developmental disabilities, their families and the employees who serve them in your district. I am a (parent, family member, person with a developmental disability, employee serving people with developmental disabilities) and I urge you to SPEAK and VOTE FOR the amendment. I am eager to watch the webcast of the proceedings and to see how you vote.”

For the Senate, use the Senate switchboard # 518-455-2800.

For the Assembly, use the Assembly switchboard # 518-455-4100.

Find your Legislators at:

Senate: http://www.nysenate.gov/senators

Assembly: http://assembly.state.ny.us/mem/ (You can also call Assembly Republicans and Senate Democrats and urge them to speak for the amendment though we expect them to vote for it.)

Thank-you for your support!

Executive Director, CMA

WE ARE STILL IN THE FIGHT!!!

As the clock continues to tick, time is running out for our chance to make a difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities.

Just before deadline
Millions of dollars are at stake for nonprofit providers who rely upon this critical funding to survive. Staff personnel and services remain on the chopping block during these final tense hours of budget negotiations.

There is still time to make your voice heard in the halls of our state capitol. I urge you to contact Governor Cuomo by calling (518) 474-8390 or email him a comment directly. Tell him we can’t balance the budget on the backs of people with developmental disabilities.

URGENT BUDGET CALLS TODAY – TUESDAY

THE BUDGET STALLED LAST NIGHT OVER A NUMBER OF ISSUES INCLUDING THE RESTORATION FOR DD SERVICES. GOOD!!!! IT GIVES US ANOTHER DAY. TODAY TUESDAY CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS & THE GOVERNOR!!!!!

Keep up the pressure.  We have been told that when the issue comes up in conference many members speak on our behalf.

NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO LET UP ON THE PRESSURE FOR FULL RESTORATION!

There are other competing interests.  Yesterday was a virtual roller coaster with reports of no restoration to close to full restoration.  With reports that the Governor would not relent to reports that the Senate or the Assembly were ready to cave.

The State can fully restore our $120 million cut.

The message to the legislature is: Keep your promise to your constituents with developmental disabilities and their families and all the employees who work in the programs in your district that will be cut.  They are depending on you.  Please let us know how our request for restoration of the $120 million cut is unfolding.

The table target for ALL the mental hygiene agencies is only $40 million they MUST DO BETTER AND FIND THE $ for a full restoration.  It is NOT your job to tell them where to find the money.  Remind them that they included full restoration in their one house bill!

The message to the Governor is to tell him the effect of a cut of this magnitude on the dd system and that it will cripple his agenda for transforming the system.

 1.     CALL/CONTACT THE GOVERNOR

 2.     CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS ALSO:

 Senator Skelos   Co-majority leader                   518 455-3171
Speaker Silver     Assembly Speaker                   518-455-3791
Senator Carlucci    Senate MH Chair                   518-455-2991
Assemblymember  Gunther Assembly MH Chair 518-455-5355

URGENT

HELP!

Our fight to restore $120 million dollars for our programs for people with developmental disabilities continues!

There are rumors from Albany that $30 million will be restored, with a provider tax.

THAT IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE.

We need FULL RESTORATION of the $120 million.  Please help us by doing the following:

1.)   Calling GOVERNOR CUOMO RIGHT NOW – 518-474-8390 – and tell him the full $120 million needs to be restored.

2.)  Thank your legislator (518-455-4100 and the switchboard can direct you) for supporting the restoration – thousands of New Yorkers depend on this funding to live their day to day lives.  HOWEVER:  our fight is not over.  We need your continued support to make sure the Governor restores the FULL $120 million!

THIS IS URGENT.  Programs will close, jobs and services will be lost…we desperately need you to call and tell the Governor to restore the $120 million.

Call NOW

– before it is too late.  Please call today & tomorrow.

Your voice, all our voices, can make the difference.  Thank you for caring.

Our voices are being heard! – Read the latest news.

Dear Families and Friends:  Thank you so much for lobbying on behalf of the individuals CMA provides services to.  I am happy to report that the legislature has definitely heard us. We must keep the pressure on for it does not look like the governor has changed his position, nor is he acknowledging the difference between state and nonprofit operated services. The negotiations will continue until the budget is voted on by March 21st.

We are making a difference!

WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

 MF 0911 SENATE 1

Our efforts to get our 6% proposed budget cut RESTORED are working! However, we still need your help…

Thanks to the many phone calls and letters, it looks like the assembly will support restoring the 6% budget cut. HOWEVER, we still need the support of the senate.

It is NOT too late to call or write. Together we are making progress but we are not done yet. The next two weeks are vitally important – call or write NOW!

Need to know your who your representative is?

Want to send a letter? We have one ready to go! Print here.

Please tell all your loved ones and friends to support this effort…we need you more now than ever. Thank you!

Contact your representatives, here’s how!

Dear Families and Friends:

Governor Cuomo is calling for a 6% budget cut to voluntary agencies which provide services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities effective April 1, 2013.

Unless we act immediately, these cuts, made under pressure from Washington, could result in program closings and could compromise the safety of an important group of people who do not deserve this!

Here is how you can help:

1) Please take a few minutes of your time today to call your state Assemblyman and your state Senator to voice your concern. Call today. Call tomorrow.

2) Please send a copy of the linked letter to your state Assemblyman and your state Senator to voice your concern. All you have to do is sign the letter and add your address under your name.

Letters and phone calls are extremely important. We encourage you to do both and to ask your family and friends who live in New York to do the same.

If you need assistance finding your representatives’ address or phone numbers, click here and input your address or please call CMA at 516-683-0710 and ask for Joy (Ext. 201) or Karen (Ext. 225).

Sincerely,

Eileen Egan

Executive Director
